john-mcgloughlin-4-3When John McLoughlin first spied the beautiful land and steep hills at the confluence of the Clackamas and Willamette Rivers in 1829, he envisioned a bustling and economically developed city to head the yet to be establish Oregon Territory. This vision spurred him to quickly lay claim to a two-square mile parcel of land and with that Oregon City was born.

Help celebrate the rich heritage of Oregon City by attending the 6th annual First City Celebration this Saturday, July 25th from 11am – 9pm in the heart of downtown Oregon City with a variety of activities, attractions and entertainment sure to please attendees of all ages!

This all-day event will kick off with the inaugural Oregon Trail ® Game 5K run which is based off the classic 1980s computer game and will take runners through a course as if they are traveling along the Oregon Trail from 1800s Missouri to Oregon. Along the route they’ll be faced with decisions such as to ford a river or go hunting with each decision they make determining their ultimate fate!

Each runner will receive a timed score as well as a game score and in addition to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place award in mens, womans and kids categories, there will also be three themed awards handed out at the awards ceremony held at noon. Though 500 participants have already signed up for this fun run (twice the expected turn out!), day of registration will still be available beginning at 8:30am leading up to the 10am start time.

There will be over 100 vendor booths featuring local artists and artisans, a heritage village including live period music on the Heritage Stage and living history actors which attendees are encouraged to interact with. Children can expect to be entertained with plenty of fun activities including coloring Main St. with chalk, heritage themed learning activities, and more.
